· Koru Overland

The best overland trailer under $50,000 depends on how you sleep, what you tow with, and how much equipment you want included on day one. In October 2026, we found eight trailers from six makers with published prices under $50,000, from a $15,299 off-road squaredrop to a $49,899 pop-top camper. Below is a side-by-side comparison using figures from each maker’s own website.
A disclosure: we are Koru Overland, and we sell one of the trailers on this list, the Badger 35, from our showroom in Addison, Texas. We’ve listed it at its real price with its real trade-offs, in price order like the others. Verify every price and spec with the maker before you buy, since they change often.
How we chose these trailers
To be included, a trailer had to:
- Be built for off-road use, with all-terrain tires and raised clearance.
- Have a current price published on the maker’s website (or, for Koru, our own in-stock price), checked in October 2026.
- Be priced under $50,000 at its base or listed configuration.
Several well-known brands were left out because we could not verify a current U.S. price on the maker’s own site. These include Turtleback Trailers (whose site lists “contact for pricing”), Opus and Patriot Campers. SNO Trailers’ SPECTR is an emergency-response model, so we used SNO’s consumer Alpine instead. We did not rank the trailers. They are listed from lowest to highest price.

Price: from $15,299 (5x9) or $17,299 (5x10). Hiker lists the average as-built price at $23,914 and $25,245.
The lowest entry point here. It is a squaredrop with a small sleeping cabin, 14 inches of ground clearance and a choice of leaf springs with shocks or adjustable airbag suspension.
- Pros: lowest starting price; highly configurable; two lug-pattern options to match your truck.
- Trade-offs: much of the camp equipment is optional, and the 2,900 lb GVWR is the lowest in this group.
Off Grid Trailers Switchback
Price: $22,999.
An open, gear-hauler design with a rack for a rooftop tent. Off Grid Trailers lists a dual-burner stove, a sink with hot and cold water and a 35 L fridge in the specifications, along with 21 inches of clearance and a 50 degree departure angle.
- Pros: very light at 1,300 lb dry; kitchen and fridge included; high clearance.
- Trade-offs: a rooftop tent is not listed as standard equipment; a single AGM battery as standard.
SNO Trailers Alpine
Price: from $29,995.
A rooftop-tent-ready platform with a 30 gallon water tank, a 100Ah AGM battery and Timbren suspension standard, with long-travel Fabtech suspension offered as an upgrade. The rooftop tent, fridge, stove, sink and awning are listed as upgrades.
- Pros: large water tank; light 1,500 lb dry weight; 40 degree departure angle.
- Trade-offs: much of the camp equipment costs extra; AGM rather than lithium as standard.
Escapod TOPO2
Price: Nomad $33,990, Voyager $43,990 (an MTB edition is $53,990, above this list’s cutoff).
A fiberglass teardrop with a 60 x 80 inch mattress and a fully independent suspension. Escapod says the Voyager adds a 21 gallon water tank, 190 W solar and an Aqua-Hot system for hot air and water. The Nomad lists no water tank.
- Pros: hard-sided sleeping cabin; independent suspension; well-equipped Voyager trim.
- Trade-offs: Escapod does not list GVWR on its comparison page; the Nomad is fairly basic.
Off Grid Trailers Expedition 3.0
Price: from $34,999.
An all-metal cabin trailer with a queen bed, built in Canada. It includes a 57 L Dometic fridge, Truma AquaGo water heater and 12 inch electric brakes with a breakaway system, plus a 31 gallon water tank.

- Trade-offs: dual AGM batteries as standard, with lithium as an upgrade; awning is optional.
Off Grid Trailers Pando 3.0
Price: from $37,999.
A teardrop with a queen bed, 46.5 inches of interior headroom and a rear galley. Off Grid Trailers lists 21 inches of clearance (25 with the upgraded suspension) and a 300 lb tongue weight.

- Trade-offs: 14 gallon water tank as standard; AGM batteries as standard.
Koru Badger 35
Price: $44,900 in-stock price.

It comes fully equipped: a REDARC 150Ah self-heating lithium battery (about 1.9 kWh) with REDARC power management, a 3,000 W inverter, Dometic 55 L and 25 L fridge/freezers, a Dometic stove and sink, an on-demand propane water heater, a diesel air heater, a 270 degree awning and a 21 gallon water tank.
- Pros: fully equipped with no option list to work through; lithium power and REDARC management; 35 inch tires; four units in stock now, so you can inspect the exact trailer before buying.
- Trade-offs: sleeps one to two adults; a rooftop tent rather than a hard cabin; sold from a single showroom in Addison, Texas; the in-stock units are 2023 models from the first production run.
Black Series HQ12
Price: $49,899.
A much larger pop-top camper, 19 feet overall, that sleeps up to four and includes a wet bath. Black Series lists a 200Ah battery bank, 600 W of solar and a 64 gallon water tank.
- Pros: indoor space, a bathroom and room for a small family.
- Trade-offs: a 7,500 lb GVWR puts it in a different towing class than everything else here, and its size limits narrow trails.
How do I choose the right overland trailer?
Work through these questions in order:
- How do you want to sleep? Rooftop tents are lighter and quicker to pitch on a trailer; hard cabins handle wind, rain and cold better. See overland trailer vs rooftop tent vs teardrop.
- What can your vehicle handle? Compare the trailer’s GVWR with your tow rating, and its tongue weight with your payload. Our guide on half-ton trucks and overland trailers shows the math.
- What does the price actually include? Build a like-for-like list: tent, fridge, water heater, lithium battery, solar, awning, brakes. A lower starting price can end up higher once equipped.
- How much power do you need? Compare batteries in kWh, not amp-hours. Our off-grid power guide explains how.
- How much water? Tanks here range from none to 64 gallons.
- Can you wait? Build-to-order offers choice. In-stock units can be inspected and towed home sooner.
- Where is service? Consider who will handle warranty work and parts near you.

Common questions
What is the cheapest real off-road trailer in 2026?
Among the trailers we checked, the Hiker Trailer Extreme Off Road had the lowest starting price at $15,299 for the 5x9 size. Hiker lists the average as-built price at $23,914, so expect to pay more once options are added.
Which overland trailers under $50,000 have a hard-sided cabin?
The Hiker Extreme Off Road, Escapod TOPO2, Off Grid Trailers Expedition 3.0 and Pando 3.0 all have small hard-sided sleeping cabins, and the Black Series HQ12 is a larger pop-top camper. The Off Grid Trailers Switchback, SNO Alpine and Koru Badger 35 use rooftop tents.
Are overland trailer starting prices the final price?
Usually not. Starting prices often exclude items such as a rooftop tent, fridge, awning, lithium battery or solar, plus delivery and taxes, so compare equipped prices for the build you actually want.
Which overland trailer under $50,000 is the lightest?
Of the trailers in this comparison, the Off Grid Trailers Switchback has the lowest published dry weight at 1,300 lb. Remember to compare GVWR as well, since that is the most the trailer can weigh when loaded.
Is the Koru Badger 35 a good overland trailer for a family?
The Badger 35 sleeps one to two adults in its rooftop tent, so it suits solo travelers and couples better than larger families. Families usually look at bigger cabin or pop-top trailers, or add a second tent.
